The first child Mr. Joe brought to the United States for treatment was Phuc Thanh Nguyen when he was age 14. He had a spinal curvature in excess of 110 degrees and his right leg was short and useless.

Surgery and therapy gave Phuc an easier and longer life. He is now back home in Vietnam, learning computer technology, and gainfully employed.

Thu left Vietnam unable to stand, but returned home able to walk to her parents.

Tung Than Nguyen lost both arms to burns from and electrical accident. When he returned to Vietnam he took back much more than a prosthetic arm; he carries great memories of his first experience with snow, pizza, summer soccer leagues, meeting Doug Flutie, and his American foster family.
